Ingredients
Scale
Steak
- 4 pounds Sirloin Steak or Chuck Roast, cut into bite-sized cubes
- 1 ½ teaspoons Kosher Salt, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 ½ teaspoons Garlic Powder
- 1 teaspoon Paprika, not the hot one
- 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil, divided
Additional Ingredients
- 1 large Sweet Onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup Low Sodium Beef Broth
- 1-ounce packet Au Jus Gravy Mix
- 6 cloves Garlic, pressed
- 5 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, sliced
- Chopped Fresh Parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Steak: In a large bowl, season the bite-sized steak cubes with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Toss to evenly coat the meat with the seasonings.
- Sear the Steak: Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak cubes in batches and sear them on all sides until browned but not fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
- Sauté Onions and Garlic: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and sauté the thinly sliced onion until translucent. Add the pressed garlic cloves and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Combine Ingredients in Slow Cooker: Transfer the seared steak and sautéed onions and garlic into the slow cooker. Add beef broth and sprinkle the Au Jus gravy mix over the top. Stir gently to combine.
- Cook in Slow Cooker: Cover and cook on low for 7 hours or until the steak is tender and infused with flavors.
- Add Butter and Finish: About 15 minutes before serving, add the sliced unsalted butter to the slow cooker and stir until melted and blended into the sauce.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the steak bites before serving. Best served over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.
Notes
- The slow cooking process makes the steak incredibly tender and flavorful.
- You can substitute sirloin steak with chuck roast for a more budget-friendly option.
- Adjust salt according to your preference since Au Jus mix may contain sodium.
- For a thicker sauce, remove lid for last 30 minutes of cooking to let some liquid evaporate.
- Serve with creamy mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or steamed rice for a complete meal.
