Description

A simple and delicious recipe for crispy baked tofu served with a rich and creamy peanut sauce. This dish features super firm tofu tossed with cornstarch for extra crispiness, baked to golden perfection, and coated in a flavorful peanut sauce made with peanut butter, soy sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice. Perfect as a vegetarian main course or a satisfying snack with bold flavors and a creamy texture.

Ingredients

Scale

Tofu

  • 1 pound super firm tofu (dried and cubed)
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Peanut Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted creamy or crunchy peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • Hot water (as needed for sauce consistency)

Garnish

  • Green onion (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tofu: In a medium bowl, toss the cubed tofu with the oil to coat evenly. Add the cornstarch and mix gently until all tofu pieces are evenly coated with the cornstarch. Set the bowl aside for later.
  2. Bake the tofu: Arrange the tofu cubes in a single layer on a sheet pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes, flipping halfway through the baking time to ensure even crispiness. The tofu should be golden and crispy when done.
  3. Make the peanut sauce: While the tofu is baking, combine the peanut butter, optional sesame oil, soy sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice in a small bowl. Add a splash of hot water and stir until smooth. Gradually add more hot water, a little at a time, until the sauce reaches your desired creamy consistency.
  4. Combine tofu and sauce: Once the tofu is crispy, transfer it back to the reserved bowl. Pour the peanut sauce over the tofu and gently toss to coat all pieces evenly.
  5. Serve: Garnish with chopped green onions and serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, pat the tofu dry thoroughly before tossing with oil and cornstarch.
  • You can substitute peanut butter with almond or cashew butter for a different flavor.
  • For a nuttier taste, use crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy.
  • If you prefer, this recipe can also be made using an air fryer or pan-frying for the tofu instead of baking.
  • Adjust the hot water quantity in the peanut sauce to your preferred thickness.
  • Serve with steamed rice or fresh vegetables to make a complete meal.
