Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 3.5 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
- 2 tbsp refined coconut oil
- 2 tbsp orange juice (freshly squeezed)
- ½ tsp orange zest
- 2 tbsp icing sugar (powdered sugar)
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder (plus extra for dusting)
Instructions
- Chop Chocolate: Chop or break the bar of dark chocolate into small pieces to ensure it melts evenly and smoothly.
- Melt Chocolate: Place a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of boiling water and add the chopped chocolate. Stir continuously until the chocolate is fully melted.
- Add Coconut Oil: Remove the bowl from the heat and stir in the refined coconut oil until fully combined for a smooth texture.
- Mix Flavorings: Stir in the freshly squeezed orange juice, orange zest, icing sugar, and cocoa powder until the mixture is completely smooth and homogeneous.
- Chill Mixture: Refrigerate the mixture for 25 minutes or until it becomes solid enough to handle and shape by hand.
- Shape Truffles: Use a small spoon to scoop portions of the chilled mixture, then roll them into balls between your palms. Dust your hands with cocoa powder if needed to prevent melting or stickiness.
- Coat Truffles: Spread cocoa powder on a plate and roll the truffle balls in it until evenly coated for a beautiful finish.
- Store and Serve: Place the truffles in an airtight container and store in the fridge. Serve at room temperature for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher) for the best flavor and texture.
- Refined coconut oil is preferred to avoid coconut flavor; unrefined can be used but will add coconut taste.
- Adjust the orange zest and juice quantities slightly to enhance or reduce citrus flavor according to preference.
- Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- For a festive touch, roll some truffles in chopped nuts or desiccated coconut instead of cocoa powder.
- If mixture is too sticky to roll, chill for an additional 10 minutes before shaping.
