Description

Decadent and zesty Chocolate Orange Truffles made with rich dark chocolate, fresh orange juice, and a hint of orange zest. These vegan truffles are smooth, flavorful, and perfect for a festive treat or gift. Easy to prepare and requiring minimal ingredients, they offer a perfect balance of deep chocolate and bright citrus notes.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 3.5 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
  • 2 tbsp refined coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • ½ tsp orange zest
  • 2 tbsp icing sugar (powdered sugar)
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder (plus extra for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Chop Chocolate: Chop or break the bar of dark chocolate into small pieces to ensure it melts evenly and smoothly.
  2. Melt Chocolate: Place a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of boiling water and add the chopped chocolate. Stir continuously until the chocolate is fully melted.
  3. Add Coconut Oil: Remove the bowl from the heat and stir in the refined coconut oil until fully combined for a smooth texture.
  4. Mix Flavorings: Stir in the freshly squeezed orange juice, orange zest, icing sugar, and cocoa powder until the mixture is completely smooth and homogeneous.
  5. Chill Mixture: Refrigerate the mixture for 25 minutes or until it becomes solid enough to handle and shape by hand.
  6. Shape Truffles: Use a small spoon to scoop portions of the chilled mixture, then roll them into balls between your palms. Dust your hands with cocoa powder if needed to prevent melting or stickiness.
  7. Coat Truffles: Spread cocoa powder on a plate and roll the truffle balls in it until evenly coated for a beautiful finish.
  8. Store and Serve: Place the truffles in an airtight container and store in the fridge. Serve at room temperature for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher) for the best flavor and texture.
  • Refined coconut oil is preferred to avoid coconut flavor; unrefined can be used but will add coconut taste.
  • Adjust the orange zest and juice quantities slightly to enhance or reduce citrus flavor according to preference.
  • Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • For a festive touch, roll some truffles in chopped nuts or desiccated coconut instead of cocoa powder.
  • If mixture is too sticky to roll, chill for an additional 10 minutes before shaping.
