Ingredients
Scale
Cheese Sauce
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 2 cups milk, warmed
- 8 ounces white American cheese, cubed
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper (white or black)
Cheesesteak Fries
- 1 pound ribeye steak
- 2 tablespoons oil, divided
- 1 medium green bell pepper, sliced 1/8 inch thick
- 1 medium onion, sliced 1/8 inch thick
- 1 bag frozen crinkle-cut fries
Instructions
- Prep Steak: Place the ribeye steak in the freezer for about 20 minutes until firm, then slice it thinly into 1/8 inch strips. Toss the sliced steak with 1 tablespoon of oil and set aside.
- Cook Fries: Prepare the frozen crinkle-cut fries according to the package instructions and keep them warm for assembling later.
- Make Cheese Sauce: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about a minute to form a roux. Gradually whisk in the warmed milk and cook, stirring, until the mixture is thickened. Slowly add the cubed white American cheese and shredded parmesan cheese, stirring continuously until fully melted and smooth. Season with salt and ground pepper. Keep the cheese sauce warm.
- Cook Meat and Vegetables: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the ribeye strips until browned and set them aside. In the same skillet, sauté the green bell pepper and onion slices until caramelized and tender. Return the cooked steak to the pan with the vegetables and cook together for a few more minutes until everything is well caramelized. Remove from heat.
- Assemble Fries: Spread the cooked fries on a large platter or serving tray. Evenly distribute the steak, peppers, and onions mixture over the fries. Pour the warm cheese sauce generously over the top. Serve any remaining cheese sauce on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Prep all ingredients before cooking to ensure even cooking and to avoid overcooking.
- Ribeye steak is ideal for its rich flavor and tenderness, but sirloin or top round cuts can be substituted.
- Serving this dish on a parchment paper-lined sheet pan helps with easy cleanup and presentation.
- Keep the cheese sauce warm to maintain its smooth consistency when serving.
- For an extra kick, consider adding sliced jalapeños or hot sauce on the side.
