Description

Delicious homemade Pepperoni Rolls featuring fluffy bread dough filled with classic pepperoni and mozzarella cheese, seasoned with Italian herbs. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, these rolls are baked to a golden brown and served warm.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough and Filling

  • 16 ounces frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 16 slices pepperoni
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese, cut into 4ths
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg, well beaten
  • Splash of water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a large sheet tray with parchment paper, and set aside.
  2. Prepare dough: Place the thawed bread dough onto a clean work surface. Cut into 8 equal parts.
  3. Flatten dough: Flatten out each piece of dough to about a 4x4-inch diameter using your hands.
  4. Add filling: Place 2 slices of pepperoni in the center of each dough piece. Add 2 slices of the cut mozzarella cheese on top and sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
  5. Roll and seal: Fold the two outer edges over the filling, then tightly roll it, pinching the seams together until secure.
  6. Arrange rolls: Place seam side down onto the prepared sheet tray, making sure rolls do not touch. Repeat for all rolls.
  7. Apply egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk together 1 large beaten egg and a splash of water. Lightly brush the exposed bread dough with the egg wash.
  8. Bake: Bake the rolls for 12 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool and serve: Let cool for about 5 minutes on the tray before serving. Serve with pizza or marinara sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Use additional pepperoni if you prefer a meatier filling.
  • Substitute mozzarella with other cheeses like provolone or cheddar for variety.
  • Ensure the seams are well sealed to prevent filling leakage during baking.
  • Serve with marinara or pizza sauce for dipping.
  • For a crispier crust, brush the rolls with butter after baking.
